According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., officers responded to reports of gunfire around 7:00 p.m. in the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue. When police arrived, they located multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Among the victims were 10-year-old Jordan and a 21-year-old woman, both of whom were transported to University Hospital. Despite emergency medical efforts, both were later pronounced deceased.

Three additional victims — an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, and a 60-year-old man — were also taken to the hospital. Authorities report that all three are currently in stable condition.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation. Officials have not released information regarding a possible motive or whether any suspects have been identified. The case remains active and ongoing.

Essex County Sheriff Amir Jones has announced a reward of up to $10,000 through the Essex County Crime Stoppers Program for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Residents or witnesses with any information are encouraged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Tips Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC, with the option to remain anonymous.
