Journalist Reports Altercation Involving Irvin Charles at Scene of Kris Boyd Incident

A journalist reporting on the shooting involving New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd says he experienced an altercation with Jets wide receiver Irvin Charles and others while covering the incident early Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan.
According to the reporter’s account, he was present in an official press capacity when Charles allegedly confronted him, grabbed his phone, and pushed him while issuing verbal threats. The journalist stated that the situation escalated when another unidentified individual reportedly took the phone from his hand and threw it to the ground, causing damage.
The reporter said the altercation began while he was filming the scene, claiming that Charles struck the phone from his hand, which initiated the confrontation. Witnesses and NYPD officers who responded to the area reportedly stepped in multiple times to separate the group from the journalist.
He described the encounter as chaotic and intimidating, stating that he felt unsafe as he was pushed, surrounded, and yelled at during the incident.
The situation unfolded amid heightened emotions following the shooting of 29-year-old NFL cornerback Kris Boyd, who was critically injured outside a Manhattan venue around 2:00 a.m. Sunday. Boyd sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen, and police say two luxury vehicles fled the area immediately after the shooting.
Boyd was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition and was reportedly drifting in and out of consciousness. No further updates on his condition have been released.
Ernest Quander, a longtime friend and former University of Texas teammate, expressed optimism about Boyd’s recovery, stating, “He’s doing good. He’s strong — a fighter… He’ll get through this.”
Boyd, who joined the Jets in March, has been on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury and has not yet played this season. His NFL career includes time with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans.
The New York Jets have acknowledged awareness of the shooting but declined additional comment due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. At this time, NYPD has not confirmed whether charges will be pursued regarding the reported altercation.
Both the shooting and the alleged incident involving the journalist remain under active investigation. Further updates will be provided as authorities release new information.
