Investigation Underway After Security Event Near White House Involving National Guard Personnel

Washington, D.C. officials have confirmed that two members of the West Virginia National Guard who were injured during an incident near the White House on Wednesday have passed away, prompting coordinated responses from both state and federal agencies.
Governor Patrick Morrisey announced the news in a public statement, expressing deep sorrow on behalf of the state and extending condolences to the families, loved ones, and the National Guard community. The incident took place near the intersection of 17th Street NW and I Street NW, an area just a short distance from the White House. Authorities responded immediately, securing the scene and transporting those injured to local hospitals. Officials later confirmed that a person believed to be involved in the incident was detained and is receiving medical treatment.
Witnesses reported hearing a series of loud sounds, prompting people in the area to seek safety as first responders arrived. A medical helicopter also landed on the National Mall to assist with transport needs.
