22-year-old Chance McCowin killed in North Omaha shooting

 OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha Police Department has identified the victim killed in a shooting that occurred early Monday morning in North Omaha as 22-year-old Chance McCowin.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after midnight near North 24th Street and Patrick Avenue, in the midst of a Native Omaha Days event.

According to investigators, the shooting followed a physical altercation that escalated into violence.

Emergency responders transported three victims to a nearby hospital. McCowin was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The other two victims—32-year-old Dontavis Montgomery and 24-year-old Tai’Jianea Henderson—are reported to be in stable condition, according to Omaha police.

During a briefing at the scene, OPD Captain Ken Fox urged families to prioritize safety: “If your loved ones are down here, tell your loved ones to go home. Make sure your loved ones are home.”

As of now, no suspect information has been released.

The Omaha Police Homicide Unit is actively investigating the incident and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
