Florida Gubernatorial Candidate Arrested for Alleged Assault on Elderly Parents

PALM COAST FLORIDA, a Florida gubernatorial candidate has been arrested following allegations of assault involving his elderly parents and threats made against relatives during a reported mental health crisis, according to authorities.
Kevin Cichowski, 46, who was seeking nomination on the Democratic ticket for Florida governor, was taken into custody on Friday after deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Palm Coast following reports of a domestic disturbance.
Authorities allege that Cichowski struck one of his elderly parents with a cane and threw a cellphone at another individual while also being in possession of a firearm.
A 911 caller, who was also identified as a victim, reported that he made threats to kill family members and stated he would also harm law enforcement if they arrived at the scene.
When deputies arrived, they found two victims hiding in a bedroom. Officials said one of the victims was bedridden and unable to leave the residence.
After securing the scene and evacuating the victims, deputies ordered Cichowski to surrender, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities said the incident was captured on body camera footage, during which Cichowski claimed his father was experiencing a mental health episode and made statements suggesting he was acting in self-defense.
While being transported to the detention facility, he reportedly made suicidal statements and was later placed into protective custody under the Baker Act.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly praised deputies, dispatchers, and analysts for their coordinated response, stating that their actions helped prevent further escalation and ensured the safety of those involved.
Records show Cichowski is being held without bond, and his arraignment is scheduled for May 5.
He previously ran for Palm Coast mayor in 2021 and is listed among candidates in Florida’s upcoming gubernatorial race.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to review all details surrounding the incident.
