Lockdown Issued at Miami Dade College Homestead Campus Following Shooting Alert in Homestead, Florida
HOMESTEAD FLORIDA, Authorities issued an emergency alert Monday after reports of a possible armed suspect near the Miami Dade College Homestead Campus, prompting students and staff to shelter in place while law enforcement investigated the situation.
According to the emergency notification sent through the college’s alert system, individuals on campus were instructed to immediately move into the nearest building or room and lock the door if possible. The message advised students and employees to remain inside offices or classrooms until further notice.
“Possible armed suspect in MDC’s Homestead Campus. Go into the nearest building or room and lock the door if possible. Stay in offices or classrooms. If not on campus avoid area until further notice. Wait for the all clear notification from College officials or local authorities,” the alert stated.
The warning was issued through the college’s emergency notification system, which is designed to quickly inform students, faculty, and staff of threats that could impact campus safety. Miami Dade College uses text messages, emails, and other alerts to notify the campus community during emergencies.
Initial reports indicated the situation involved a possible shooting near the Homestead campus, though officials had not confirmed details about the incident or whether anyone had been injured.
