Authorities found a single occupant and driver inside the Honda Civic suffering from life-threatening injuries. The driver was later identified as 43-year-old Chad Askew of Mansfield, Massachusetts.

Emergency responders performed CPR on Askew at the scene before transporting him to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Officials said no operators or attendants of the tractor-trailers were present when police arrived at the scene.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and the Attleboro Police Department.
