NAB Employee Found Dead at 700 Bourke Street Branch in Docklands, Melbourne

DOCKLANDS MELBOURNE, A man has died following an incident outside a National Australia Bank office in Docklands, Melbourne, prompting an emergency response and road closures in the central business district on Thursday afternoon.
The body of the man was discovered around 2 p.m. on Bourke Street near the NAB 700 Bourke Street – Tellerless Branch. The building, a 14-storey office tower, houses staff from National Australia Bank and is one of the bank’s major offices in the Docklands precinct.
Emergency services and police quickly responded to the scene, and several surrounding roads were temporarily closed as authorities began their investigation. Traffic restrictions included the northbound lanes of Wurundjeri Way at Flinders Street while officers worked in the area.
In a statement, Victoria Police confirmed they attended the incident and that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
“Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a man in Docklands on March 5,” the statement said. “The body of a man, who is yet to be formally identified, was located on Bourke Street about 2 p.m. This death is not being treated as suspicious.”
While authorities have not publicly identified the deceased, it is understood the man was an employee connected to the NAB office at the Docklands location. Staff members working in the building were informed of the incident, and the bank has offered counselling and support services to employees affected by the tragic event.
The Docklands office is one of two major Melbourne workplaces operated by National Australia Bank, the other located at 395 Bourke Street in the city’s CBD.
The incident comes amid unconfirmed reports circulating within corporate circles about potential restructuring and redundancies within the bank. Some workers recently told business commentator “The Aussie Corporate” that a “revolving door of consultants” had been present in recent months, fueling speculation about possible organizational changes. However, the bank has not publicly linked the incident to any internal developments.
Authorities continue to prepare a report for the coroner as part of standard procedure in unexpected deaths.
