FIU Campus Lockdown After Reported Gunfire Near Florida International University

MIAMI FLA, Law enforcement agencies responded Tuesday, Feb. 24, to reports of gunfire near the campus of Florida International University.
Officers were dispatched to the area of 11200 SW 8th Street after receiving calls reporting possible shots fired. As a precaution, the campus was placed on a hard lockdown while police secured the scene and assessed the situation.
Authorities arrived and established a perimeter around the reported location. Students, faculty, and staff were instructed to shelter in place as officers conducted a search of the area.
Details regarding the circumstances of the reported gunfire were not immediately available. Police have not confirmed whether any injuries occurred or whether a suspect has been identified.
University officials stated that the lockdown was implemented as a precaution to prioritize the safety of the campus community while law enforcement investigated.
