University Community Grieves Death of SEMO Student

CAPE GIRARDEAU MISSOURI, the Southeast Missouri State University community is mourning the loss of 19-year-old student-athlete Danny Duray, who died last night, according to university officials.

Duray, a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois, was born on Oct. 12, 2005. He was majoring in Accounting and was a member of the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks football team, serving as a place kicker. He began attending the university in August 2024 and was expected to graduate in May 2028.

His death has deeply affected the campus community, including the athletics department and those in his hometown.

In addition to his athletic and academic commitments, Duray was known for his entrepreneurial efforts. Friends and classmates said he founded and operated a window company in the Chicago area, gaining experience in sales, operations, and customer service while balancing his college responsibilities.

Peers described him as ambitious and disciplined, noting that he worked to manage academics, athletics, and business pursuits simultaneously.

Duray was the son of Samuel and Sally Duray. Teammates and friends remembered him as dependable and supportive, saying he brought steady focus and encouragement to those around him.

University officials shared a message expressing condolences to Duray’s family, friends, and teammates. Counseling services have been made available to students and staff as the campus community processes the loss.
