MYERSTOWN PENNSYLVANIA, Authorities have identified John McDowell, 47, of 65 Gable Drive in Myerstown, as the man who was shot and killed early Wednesday morning during an encounter with law enforcement. The incident took place around 6:20 a.m. at the Gables Development, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

Officials said officers were serving a search warrant connected to an investigation involving child pornography at McDowell’s residence. During the attempt to carry out the warrant, McDowell reportedly came outside his apartment holding a knife and did not comply with repeated commands to surrender. Authorities stated that he was shot after refusing to stand down and was pronounced dead at the scene.
