Car Crashes Through McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metro Airport, Driver in Custody

ROMULUS MICHIGAN, A person was taken into custody after a car crashed through Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport on Friday evening, according to airport officials.
The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the McNamara Terminal, officials said.
Video recorded by a 7 News Detroit employee at the airport showed the vehicle inside the terminal. DTW officials confirmed the car struck a ticket counter.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise as the vehicle drove through the entrance and crashed into a Delta Air Lines service desk while employees were working. One witness said the driver exited the vehicle with his hands raised and appeared to be speaking, though it was unclear what he was saying.
Travelers said police officers and Transportation Security Administration personnel responded quickly to the scene. Authorities confirmed the driver was taken into custody.
“The response was so quick thank God with the cops and TSA and everybody,” said traveler Ali Khalifa. “That all happened in seconds.”
Officials said six people were treated at the scene. No information was immediately released regarding the severity of their injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Despite the incident, airport officials indicated that travel operations inside the terminal continued largely as normal Friday night.
