Judge Steven Meyer and Wife Kimberly Injured in Lafayette Shooting

LAFAYETTE IND, Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, were injured in a shooting at their residence Sunday afternoon, according to law enforcement.

The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) said officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Mill Pond Lane at about 2:17 p.m. after receiving an initial 911 call reporting unknown circumstances.

As more information became available, the call was upgraded to a reported shooting, leading to a larger police response.

When officers arrived, they found two gunshot victims, one male and one female, inside the home.

Emergency medical crews provided treatment at the scene before transporting both victims to a local hospital.

Police later confirmed that both individuals are listed in stable condition.

During the early stages of the investigation, officers recovered a spent shotgun shell on the front porch of the residence.

According to investigators, the male victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.

Police said the victim reported hearing a knock at the door, after which a person allegedly stated, “We have your dog,” before firing a shot through the door that struck him.

The area was secured while detectives collected evidence, and access to the immediate vicinity was restricted during the investigation.

Property records linked to the address list Kimberly Meyer as the resident. Authorities later confirmed that the injured individuals are Judge Steven Meyer and his wife.

LPD confirmed that two people were shot and stated that the investigation remains active.

No suspects have been identified or taken into custody, and police have not released further details regarding a possible motive.
