Seth Peter Kelly Arrested in Wood River Following Unusual Encounter With Police

WOOD RIVER, a 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with drug possession after he walked into a police station and asked officers to test his methamphetamine, claiming it caused him a “bad reaction.”
According to the Wood River Police Department, Seth Peter Kelly contacted officers on Tuesday and reported that he had purchased methamphetamine about a week earlier. Kelly told police he experienced what he described as an “allergic reaction” after smoking the substance and believed he may have been sold the wrong drug.
Kelly reportedly told officers he wanted to press charges against the individual who sold him the drugs, claiming the product was not what he paid for.
Detectives advised Kelly to bring the substance to the police department so it could be tested. Kelly complied, arriving at the station and handing officers a clear, crystal-like substance wrapped in aluminum foil.
Police conducted a field test, which confirmed the substance was methamphetamine—the same drug Kelly said he intended to purchase.
Kelly was immediately arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. He was transported to the Madison County Jail, where he is being held on a $5,000 bond.
In a statement, the Wood River Police Department commented on the incident, reminding the public that officers are always willing to “assist” individuals who believe they were misled during an illegal drug transaction.
