Bradenton Medical Complex Shooting Leaves One Woman Dead, Authorities Say
BRADENTON, Fla. A Florida man has been arrested after allegedly entering a medical office complex in Bradenton and fatally shooting his former girlfriend, then shooting and injuring another woman who witnessed the attack.
Keith Roberts Jr., 29, is accused of entering a suite of offices at a lab processing facility in the 5200 block of 4th Ave. Cir. E. just before 12:48 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, where police say he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Myshaela Burnham, 29.
According to a release from the Bradenton Police Department, Roberts then turned the gun on a female office employee who witnessed the fatal shooting. The woman was struck by gunfire and remains hospitalized. Her name has not been released by authorities.
Police said Roberts fled the scene in a vehicle but was located and taken into custody in Palmetto within about 25 minutes of the shooting. Investigators said he agreed to be interviewed by detectives with the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit and was arrested shortly before 6 p.m.
“We treated this as an active shooter response. We had all hands on deck,” said Bradenton Police Department Public Information Officer Meredith Censullo. “Any shooting in Bradenton is a major concern to us, especially one that happens in the middle of a workday at a commercial area. These are medical buildings, and that is very frightening. There were people nearby who heard the gunfire, which made the situation incredibly scary.”
Following his arrest, Roberts was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.
Authorities have not released further details about what led up to the shooting. A social media commentator stated that Burnham leaves behind a 6-year-old son, though police have not confirmed that information.
The investigation remains ongoing.
