Officials have identified the woman who died in a house fire in Needham on Christmas Eve as Kayla Corrigan, 21, according to local authorities.

Corrigan was a student at Syracuse University. Following her death, her sorority shared a statement honoring her memory and remembering the impact she had on those around her. In part, the statement described Corrigan as someone who “shared the most beautiful presence” and was known for her kindness, warmth, humor, and selflessness.

Fire officials said the blaze broke out at Corrigan’s home on Woodworth Road on Christmas Eve, prompting a large emergency response. Approximately 75 firefighters were dispatched to the scene to battle the fire and secure the area.

Investigators determined that the fire originated in the garage and was accidental in nature. Officials confirmed that two other individuals who were inside the home at the time were able to escape safely and were not injured.

Authorities continue to express condolences to Corrigan’s family, friends, and the Syracuse University community as they mourn the loss of a young life taken during the holiday season.
