Jerry Deslatte Identified in Fatal Rollover Crash on Louisiana Highway 109 in Calcasieu Parish
The Calcasieu Parish community is mourning the tragic loss of Jerry Deslatte, 47, of Port Arthur, Texas, along with an unidentified passenger, following a fatal single-vehicle crash Sunday evening on Louisiana Highway 109 near Line Road.
According to the Louisiana State Police, the incident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. Authorities stated that Deslatte was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado southbound when the vehicle was unable to safely navigate a left-hand curve. The truck left the roadway, entered a ditch, and overturned.
Both Deslatte and the passenger were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. As a result of the collision, they sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene by responding officials.
Investigators are continuing efforts to identify the passenger involved in the crash. As part of standard procedure, toxicology samples were collected, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine all contributing factors.
Law enforcement officials have emphasized the importance of seat belt use, noting that proper restraint can greatly increase the chances of survival and reduce the severity of injuries in traffic accidents.
