Suspect in Shorewood Officer Shooting Fatally Shot by Milwaukee and Glendale Police Following Pursuit

SHOREWOOD, WI — Early Thursday morning, a police officer in Shorewood was shot while responding to reports of gunfire near Bartlett and Kenmore Avenues.
According to Shorewood Police Chief Heather Wurth, this incident took place just before 3:00 a.m. on July 3, and authorities now believe it was a targeted act of violence.
As officers were heading to the scene, one of their squad cars came under fire from an unknown shooter.
At least two bullets hit the windshield, and another struck the passenger side of the vehicle.
One officer was hit, but thankfully, his protective vest stopped the bullet.
He was taken to the hospital as a precaution but has since been released. Chief Wurth confirmed that the officer is in “good spirits.”
The condition of two other individuals injured in the initial shooting hasn’t been publicly disclosed, although the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed its presence at the scene.
As the investigation progressed, residents near Newhall and Wood were advised to shelter in place due to what was described as an “ongoing tactical situation.” A significant police presence was noted in Shorewood and nearby areas, including Milwaukee and Glendale.
Law enforcement sources later revealed that a high-speed chase involving the suspect occurred later that morning.
The suspect reportedly fired shots at officers during the pursuit, particularly at 4th Street and Reservoir Avenue.
The chase eventually concluded near Port Washington and Hampton Avenues in Glendale, where officers from both the Milwaukee and Glendale Police Departments returned fire.
Preliminary, unconfirmed reports suggest that the suspect was shot and killed while still inside the vehicle, but official confirmation is still pending.
During a press conference, Chief Wurth emphasized that the attack didn’t seem random and called for an end to the escalating violence in the area.
