 FORT STEWART, Ga. – An active shooter incident occurred Wednesday morning at Fort Stewart, Georgia, resulting in five U.S. Army soldiers being wounded, military officials confirmed.

The shooting took place in the area of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (2nd ABCT) complex.

According to officials, emergency personnel were dispatched at 10:56 a.m. following reports of gunfire.

The shooter was apprehended at 11:35 a.m. and is currently in custody.

All five injured soldiers received initial treatment at the scene before being transported to Winn Army Community Hospital for further care.

Their current conditions have not been disclosed, but officials confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Fort Stewart officials enacted an installation-wide lockdown at 11:04 a.m. as a precautionary measure.

The lockdown for the main cantonment area was lifted by 12:10 p.m., though the 2nd ABCT complex remains secured as the investigation continues.

Some victims were also transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, a designated regional trauma center.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
