Tuscola County officials have announced that Jon Ramirez, director of Tuscola County 911 Central Dispatch, has been relieved of his duties effective immediately. The decision followed a special meeting held Tuesday afternoon, during which commissioners voted 3–2 to move forward with the dismissal after a closed session lasting about two hours.

Commissioners did not publicly disclose the reasons behind their decision during the open portion of the meeting.

Ramirez previously served 14 years with the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department before being appointed as Central Dispatch director in 2023. Following the board’s vote, he asked commissioners to appoint an interim leader promptly to ensure stability for the staff moving forward.

“I ask that, in my absence, maybe it’s too early, but that you name an interim so that the staff has a clear direction moving forward,” Ramirez said.
