Broward Deputy Injured and One Fatality Reported in Margate, Florida Shooting Investigation

A law enforcement operation in Margate led to a shooting on Wednesday in the 6100 block of NW 2nd Street, resulting in one suspect’s death and a Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) deputy sustaining minor injuries, officials confirmed.
According to BSO, deputies along with Margate’s Burglary Apprehension Team were conducting an operation in the area when a confrontation with a suspect escalated, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During the incident, one deputy was hit, but authorities reported that the bullet struck the deputy’s ballistic vest, causing only minor injuries.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated the injured deputy on-site, and officials stated that the deputy is expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect was also struck when deputies returned fire. Authorities confirmed that the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect’s identity has not been released as officials await notification of the next of kin.
The shooting occurred near Southgate Boulevard and U.S. 441, an area that was temporarily shut down while investigators processed the crime scene. A significant law enforcement presence remained for several hours as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the exchange of gunfire.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is expected to take over the investigation, following standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in Florida.
Authorities confirmed that no additional injuries were reported. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
