Video Shows Moments Tulare County Deputy Was Killed in Porterville Shooting

PORTERVILLE, a Tulare County Sheriff’s Office deputy was killed during a violent confrontation on Thursday morning after an eviction service escalated into an active shooting, authorities confirmed.
Sheriff Mike Boudreaux stated that deputies were serving an eviction notice at a residence near Brian Lane and Newcomb Street at approximately 10:20 a.m. when gunfire suddenly erupted.
The suspect, identified as David Morales (born 1966), allegedly opened fire on responding deputies, triggering a prolonged and dangerous standoff.
Officials said the suspect is believed to be barricaded inside the home and is armed with a high-powered rifle.
Multiple rounds were exchanged between the suspect and law enforcement, leaving deputies pinned down during the early phase of the incident.
During the exchange, one deputy was struck by gunfire. Fellow officers carried out a tactical rescue under active threat conditions and transported the injured deputy to Sierra View Medical Center.
Despite emergency medical efforts, the deputy later died from his injuries.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect remains barricaded inside the residence, and the situation is considered extremely volatile.
Multiple SWAT teams and specialized units have been deployed to secure the area and systematically clear nearby homes to ensure resident safety.
As a precaution, several nearby schools—including Westfield Elementary School, Sequoia Middle School, and Monache High School—were placed on lockdown.
Students and staff are sheltering in place, and officials have urged parents not to attempt to pick up children until law enforcement declares it safe.
Residents in surrounding areas have also been instructed to remain indoors and avoid the vicinity as the operation continues.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the situation remains active and dangerous, with efforts ongoing to safely apprehend the suspect. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
