Video Shows Iranian Drone Striking Nakhchivan Region of Azerbaijan

NAKHCHIVAN AZERBAIJAN, Authorities in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic reported that drones launched from Iranian territory struck locations within the region on Thursday afternoon, damaging infrastructure and injuring at least two civilians.
According to an official government statement, the incident occurred on March 5 when two unmanned aerial vehicles entered Azerbaijani airspace and crashed at separate locations in the autonomous region.
Officials said one of the drones struck the terminal building at Nakhchivan International Airport, causing structural damage to the facility.
A second drone crashed near a school building in the village of Shakarabad.
Authorities confirmed that two civilians were injured during the incident. Officials said both individuals received medical treatment, though the severity of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the government condemned what it described as drone attacks originating from Iranian territory. Officials said the incident caused damage to the airport building and resulted in civilian injuries.
The Azerbaijani government stated that the attack violates international law and warned that such actions could increase tensions in the region.
Following the incident, Azerbaijan summoned Iran’s ambassador to the country to the foreign ministry in Baku. Officials said a formal diplomatic protest would be delivered to the Iranian government seeking clarification regarding the event.
Azerbaijani authorities also called on Iran to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future and stated that Azerbaijan reserves the right to take appropriate measures if necessary.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing, and officials have not yet released additional technical details about the drones involved.
