Police Investigate Stabbing After Two People Injured in Edinburgh’s Calder Area

EDINBURGH SCOTLAND, Two people were taken to hospital following a stabbing incident in the Calder area of Edinburgh on Monday morning, leading to a significant police and emergency response.
Officers were called to reports of a man carrying bladed weapons in Calder Gardens at approximately 8:25 a.m. According to Police Scotland, specialist resources, including firearms officers, were deployed as authorities worked to contain the situation.
Video recorded by witnesses shows a man in the street holding two large knives as police arrived. Residents reported a substantial law enforcement presence in the area for several hours, including armed officers and police dogs.
Two individuals sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for medical treatment. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.
The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed it received a call at 8:34 a.m. and dispatched three ambulances, three paramedic response units, and a Special Operations Response Team (SORT) to the scene. Both injured individuals were taken to hospital.
Local residents described chaotic scenes shortly after 8 a.m. William Ramsay, who lives nearby, said he believed the suspect may have entered the stairwell of his building. He also reported damage to a local shop during the disturbance.
Staff at a nearby café, Brunch, temporarily closed after spotting the man behind their building between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. An employee, who requested anonymity, said the individual was seen running through a grassy area while holding two knives before moving toward nearby high-rise flats. The café later reopened once police secured the area.
As a precaution, local schools implemented temporary lockdown procedures. Parents of students at Wester Hailes High School were notified that the school was in lockdown following a community incident and that students were safe. The school stated it would provide further updates as needed.
Residents shared concerns on social media as the situation developed throughout the morning.
Chief Inspector Scott Kennedy confirmed that the disturbance has been contained and that there is no wider risk to the public. He stated that the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
Officers remain in the area while enquiries continue. Police have asked anyone with information or concerns to speak with officers at the scene or contact authorities by calling 101.
