Police Identify Ndiaga Diagne as Suspect in Buford’s Bar Shooting in Austin

AUSTIN TEXAS, Law enforcement officials have released new photographs of the suspect involved in the deadly mass shooting at Buford’s Bar on West Sixth Street early Sunday morning.
Authorities identified the suspect as Ndiaga Diagne. According to investigators, Diagne was wearing a shirt bearing the phrase “Property of Allah,” along with an undershirt referencing Iran at the time of the incident. Law enforcement sources also confirmed that a Quran was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
Federal authorities are reviewing collected evidence to determine whether the shooting may have been ideologically motivated. At this time, investigators have not announced a confirmed motive.
Officers with the Austin Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 1:59 a.m. at Buford’s Bar, located near the intersection of West Sixth Street and Nueces Street in downtown Austin’s entertainment district.
According to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, the suspect opened fire, striking multiple individuals. Three officers at the scene returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect. Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Two victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third victim later died from injuries sustained in the shooting, bringing the total number of fatalities to three.
At least 14 additional individuals were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Early reports indicated that as many as 17 people may have required medical transport. Three hospitalized victims remain in critical condition.
By approximately 3:30 a.m., emergency responders were continuing to assess the full scope of injuries and secure the area.
Federal investigators are assisting local law enforcement as authorities process evidence at the scene, which officials indicated would require several hours to complete.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson stated that city officials will continue providing updates as verified information becomes available.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, witness statements, and digital evidence as they work to determine motive and whether the incident meets the legal criteria for terrorism-related charges.
The investigation remains active, and additional details are expected to be released as authorities complete preliminary findings.
