Loc Mike Identified as Victim in Fatal Shooting at Jackson and Buchanan Avenue in Mitchell Heights
MITCHELL HEIGHTS, Police say officers responded to a shooting just before 1 p.m. in the 3300 block of Buchanan Avenue near Jackson Avenue.
Investigators reported finding a male victim at the scene, and he was pronounced dead shortly after officers arrived.
News crews at the scene observed the victim’s vehicle being towed away while the body was still inside as a large crime scene investigation unfolded. Officers from several law enforcement agencies were present as authorities secured the area and began collecting evidence.
Family members later identified the victim as Loc Mike.
Sandra Hawthorne, who said the victim was her nephew, told reporters that police have been limited with the information they are sharing about the case. She said her nephew was reportedly sitting inside his vehicle when the shooting occurred.
“Put your guns down. You don’t have to kill just because you jealous. Memphis is full of jealousy,” Hawthorne said. “The police are not saying anything. They will not let us down there to see our family or nothing and I don’t appreciate the Memphis Police Department for that. They get no points.”
Hawthorne described her nephew as a quiet and kind person who was the father of three children.
Authorities said investigators are searching for a suspect vehicle described as dark gray or silver.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing as police continue gathering information about what led to the incident.
