Karla Lopez Arrested Following Fort Worth Crash That Killed 6-Month-Old Sebastian Reyes

FORT WORTH TEXAS, Authorities in Fort Worth have arrested a 17-year-old mother following a vehicle crash earlier this month that resulted in the death of her 6-month-old son, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
Police say the crash occurred on March 7 near the intersection of Rock Island Street and Azle Avenue.
Investigators determined that the driver—identified as Karla Lopez, 17—was operating a vehicle when she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with another vehicle traveling through the intersection.
Inside Lopez’s vehicle was her infant son, Sebastian Reyes, who authorities say was not properly restrained in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.
As a result of the impact, the child was ejected from the vehicle and sustained critical injuries.
Emergency responders transported the infant to a nearby hospital, where medical staff attempted life-saving treatment. Despite those efforts, Sebastian Reyes later died from his injuries, officials said.
Lopez also suffered injuries in the crash, but authorities described them as non-life-threatening.
After receiving medical treatment, she was taken into custody by police.
Investigators have charged Lopez with reckless injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury, according to authorities.
Additional details regarding the investigation or potential additional charges have not yet been released.
The incident remains under investigation as officials continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash.
