Educators’ Association Opposes Termination of Superintendent’s Contract Without Cause

FALL RIVER MASSACHUSETTS, The Fall River Educators’ Association (FREA) announced that its members have voted to publicly oppose terminating the superintendent’s contract without cause at this time.
According to a statement released by the association, the decision was made during a general membership meeting held on February 24, 2026, where a quorum was present. Members discussed concerns about the conduct of the process, the potential impact on future leadership recruitment, and the possible disruption to students and school communities.
“Our position is grounded in principle,” said FREA President Keith Michon Jr. “All employees, whether educators, staff, or the superintendent, deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. The manner in which leadership decisions are handled matters, not only for those directly involved, but for the entire school community.”
Association leaders said their position is focused on maintaining professional standards of governance and stability within the district rather than on individual personalities.
FREA also expressed concern that ongoing public conflict surrounding district leadership could discourage qualified candidates from seeking leadership positions in Fall River Public Schools.
“School systems depend on stability and trust,” Michon said. “When leadership decisions become publicly contentious, it creates uncertainty for educators, families, and most importantly, students.”
The association stated that continued public disputes risk shifting attention away from classroom instruction and student learning at a time when stability and collaboration are important for school communities.
FREA reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with district leadership, the School Committee, educators, families, and community partners to support transparency, professionalism, and student well-being moving forward.
