Court Rules Fall River Robbery Suspect Incompetent to Stand Trial

FALL RIVER MASSACHUSETTS, A man facing several charges connected to an alleged armed robbery in Fall River has been ruled incompetent to stand trial following a second competency hearing in Superior Court.
According to a previous statement from Fall River Police, officers from the department’s Patrol Bureau and Community Action & Suppression Team responded to a report of an armed robbery in February at 1501 Pleasant Street, the location of Discount Food Mart.
Police said the suspect was described as a Black male wearing black pants and a black jacket and reportedly armed with a knife. While traveling on Pleasant Street to respond to the call, Detective Corey Dolan observed a man matching the updated description wearing a black jacket and ski mask and walking quickly in a suspicious manner.
As police sirens sounded, the man ran from the area, prompting officers to pursue him on foot. Officers repeatedly identified themselves and ordered the suspect to stop, but he continued to flee.
The suspect ran through the North Rocliffe Apartment complex, where Officer Kwin Silva and Detective Dolan later located him lying on the ground. Authorities said he was detained without further incident, and officers found a crumpled pile of cash on the ground next to him.
The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Tyrese Ray. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery and three counts of vandalizing property.
In May 2025, Ray pleaded not guilty and was released on $500 cash bail.
Court records show that on September 10, 2025, the court admonished Ray in open court regarding a violation of his pretrial release conditions.
Ray appeared in court again on Thursday for a second competency hearing. According to court records, the judge ruled that Ray is currently incompetent to stand trial based on a doctor’s evaluation. Prosecutors did not challenge the finding.
A status review hearing in the case has been scheduled for September 16.
