Clayton Adams Identified as Victim in Athens Triple Shooting Incident

ATHENS CLARKE COUNTY, Authorities are investigating a deadly early-morning shooting in downtown Athens that left one person dead and two others critically injured.
According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of North Jackson Street at approximately 2:20 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of gunfire in the downtown area. When officers arrived, they located three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two other victims were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Authorities later identified the deceased victim as 22-year-old Clayton Adams of Hull. The identities of the other two victims have not yet been publicly released, though police confirmed both are in their early twenties.
Investigators reported that one of the hospitalized victims is not expected to survive, while the other remains in critical condition as medical staff continue life-saving treatment.
Officials also clarified that none of the victims have any known affiliation with the University of Georgia, despite the shooting occurring near the campus and the city’s downtown entertainment district.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and investigators have not released details regarding a suspect. Detectives continue processing the crime scene and are working to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
Police have also not disclosed what may have triggered the violence, whether the victims knew the shooter, or whether the incident was targeted.
