Wilkes-Barre Police Investigate Death of Missing Teen with Reported Trauma

WILKES-BARRE PENNSYLVANIA, A 15-year-old girl who was reported missing in January has been found deceased in Luzerne County, prompting an active investigation and renewed questions from her family.
Authorities identified the teen as La’Niya “Lala” Clark, who was reported missing on January 17 after failing to return home. Police said officers responded Saturday, February 21, to reports of a body found behind a garage.
According to investigators, Clark was discovered behind a vehicle. Police noted visible trauma on her body. An autopsy was conducted, but officials have not yet released the cause or manner of death.
Evidence collected at the scene included surveillance footage from nearby properties and items located near the body. Investigators have not publicly detailed what role, if any, those items may play in the case.
Authorities also confirmed that detectives executed a search at a nearby apartment building as part of the investigation. During a press conference, Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce stated that multiple individuals were being questioned but emphasized that this does not mean they are suspects.
At the time she was reported missing, Wilkes-Barre City Police described Clark as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, and hearing-impaired. She typically wore hearing aids.
The location where her body was found is just blocks from her home.
Family members have publicly expressed frustration over the early handling of the case, stating they believed there was not enough urgency in the initial response after she was described as a possible runaway. They questioned why broader alert measures were not implemented.
Following the discovery, loved ones and community members gathered seeking answers and justice.
Investigators have not stated whether foul play is suspected beyond confirming that the case remains under active investigation. No arrests have been announced.
Authorities said there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information is urged to contact Wilkes-Barre Police Detective James Conmy at 570-208-6775.
