According to the Madison Police Department, the crash occurred early Thursday, February 5, 2026, along South Park Street between North Avenue and Burr Oak Lane. Police said the pedestrian, a 17-year-old student, was hit by a vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries. Despite emergency medical efforts, the student later died at the hospital.
At 10:03 a.m., authorities confirmed the student’s death and stated that the incident remained under active investigation. Both directions of South Park Street were closed for several hours as police traffic specialists worked at the scene, documenting evidence and reconstructing the crash. The roadway was reopened at approximately 10:25 a.m., though investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Later in the day, West High School identified the victim as Alexander “Sasha” Rosen, a 17-year-old senior. The announcement sent shockwaves through classmates, teachers, and families across the district. Officials said Rosen was walking to school at the time of the crash.
School and city officials described the loss as heartbreaking and said additional information would be released as the investigation progresses. At this time, police have not announced whether charges will be filed or if other contributing factors played a role in the incident.
