A dispatcher was heard attempting to gather information and direct responding officers to the correct location as details continued to emerge. As additional calls came in, dispatchers requested more units to respond due to the developing situation.

Officers with the Urbandale Police Department arrived quickly and established a large perimeter around the apartment complex. Patrol vehicles and emergency personnel remained on scene for several hours while investigators worked to secure evidence and determine what occurred.

By Monday afternoon, authorities had not confirmed whether the death was the result of a shooting and had not released the identity of the deceased. Officials stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Christopher Gallagher, a nearby resident, said he stepped outside after hearing numerous sirens in the area.

“We heard the sirens and then we both came outside,” Gallagher said, describing how neighbors gathered to understand what was happening.

Gallagher noted that a significant police presence is uncommon for the neighborhood and said incidents involving fatalities are rare at the complex. Police also indicated that the property does not typically generate a high number of service calls.

Residents expressed sadness over the situation as investigators continue their work.

Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
