U.S. District Judge William M. Ray II on Monday sentenced Porter to three years and five months in a federal correctional facility over the threatening posts.

The sentence followed a plea agreement with prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, under which Porter pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting interstate threats.

“Threatening to kill the president of the United States is an abhorrent crime that cannot be tolerated,” U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg said in a statement after the sentencing. He added that the Constitution does not protect political violence and that federal authorities will continue working together to identify and prosecute individuals who make such threats.

According to a criminal complaint, Porter joined a TikTok livestream about the president titled “Alligator Alcatraz” on July 26, 2025. Using the handle “@jj572851,” Porter made multiple threats directed at the president during the livestream.

Investigators said that within seconds of joining the stream, Porter posted a message stating that the only way to “make America great” was to shoot Trump. At one point during the video, the host questioned whether Porter’s conduct was normal behavior, to which Porter responded that normal behavior would involve speaking about something and then doing it.

Because of the nature of the comments, a recording of the livestream was forwarded to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation.

Secret Service agents later interviewed Porter and informed him that TikTok had provided account holder information associated with the username used during the livestream. Although Porter initially denied making the comments, authorities said he later admitted to issuing the threats and acknowledged the seriousness of his actions.

Investigators also spoke with Porter’s live-in girlfriend, who said he had told her about the incident. She stated that she warned him about making such threats and about how seriously the government treats them. She further told investigators that Porter frequently spent time online engaging in similar behavior, describing it as a form of “trolling” and a social outlet for him.
