Swansea Police, Fire Respond to Double Fatal Crash Linked to Rhode Island Homicide

SWANSEA MASSACHUSETTS, Swansea Police and Fire Departments responded early Friday morning to a serious crash that left two people dead, officials said.
According to Police Chief Mark Foley and Fire Chief Eric Hajder, the incident occurred at approximately 12:18 a.m. when two Swansea police officers observed a white 2013 Infiniti G37 traveling westbound on Route 6 at a high rate of speed.
Moments later, officers saw the vehicle collide with a blue 2022 Subaru Ascent that had been traveling southbound on Route 136 (James Reynolds Road).
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but both vehicles sustained catastrophic damage. The Subaru was fully engulfed in flames. Despite efforts by first responders and bystanders to extinguish the fire, the two occupants — a man and a woman — were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 28-year-old driver of the Infiniti was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Swansea Police stated they were aware the Infiniti had been the subject of a police pursuit connected to a homicide investigation in Cranston, Rhode Island. Authorities said Swansea officers had been alerted to look out for the vehicle but were not actively pursuing it at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Swansea Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
