Saskatoon Assistant Professor Natasha Gattey Killed in Tragic Skiing Accident

NATASHA GATTEY, The University of Saskatchewan and the wider Saskatoon medical community are mourning the loss of Dr. Natasha Gattey, a beloved Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, who passed away last month following a tragic skiing accident.
Dr. Gattey was a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and held the professional designation MD, FRCPC. She was widely respected for her clinical expertise, compassionate approach to care, and deep commitment to her patients and students.
In reflecting on her career, Dr. Gattey once shared that she chose psychiatry because she valued the opportunity to build long-term connections with patients and make a meaningful, positive impact on their lives. Her approach to care emphasized empathy, continuity, and understanding—qualities that defined her work with children, adolescents, and families across the province.
She chose to remain in Saskatoon, describing it as an amazing city to raise a family, and was deeply rooted in both the academic and local communities. Colleagues say she brought warmth, humility, and dedication to her teaching role, mentoring learners with the same care she showed her patients.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Gattey was a loving wife and devoted mother, whose family was central to her life. Friends and colleagues remember her as kind, thoughtful, and deeply committed to improving the lives of others—both inside and outside the clinic.
Her passing is a profound loss to the University of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and the many patients and families whose lives she touched. She will be remembered not only for her professional excellence, but for her compassion, integrity, and enduring impact on the community she loved.
