Port Jervis Investigation: 43-Year-Old Man Dies Following Reported Shooting

PORT JERVIS NEW YORK, The City of Port Jervis Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on Hammond Street.
At approximately 12:32 a.m. on February 15, 2026, officers responded to several 911 calls reporting gunfire near 145–147 Hammond Street in the city’s Fourth Ward.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located 43-year-old Jason Finch with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body following what authorities described as a disturbance.
Finch was transported to Bon Secours Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.
The case is being investigated as a homicide. The Port Jervis Police Department is working in coordination with the New York State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Additional support is being provided by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
Officials have stated that the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public at this time.
Detectives are continuing to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and follow investigative leads.
