Police Officer, Bystanders Hailed as Heroes After Saving Driver in Easton Wreck

EASTON MASSACHUSETTS, Two good Samaritans and an Easton police officer are being credited with rescuing a driver from a burning vehicle following a multi-car crash early Friday morning.
Emergency crews responded around 2:15 a.m. to the area of 537 Turnpike Street on Route 138 for reports of a collision.
Upon arrival, responders found two vehicles engulfed in flames and a 78-year-old Raynham man trapped behind the wheel of his vehicle.
Authorities said the two bystanders and an officer broke the driver’s side window, removed the man from the vehicle, and carried him to safety before the fire intensified.
The driver was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a preliminary investigation, an unoccupied 1993 Mack dump truck was disabled in the southbound lane when a 2013 Ford F-350 traveling south struck the rear of the dump truck, trapping the pickup’s driver.
Police said a third vehicle, a 2024 Toyota Camry, then collided with the rear of the F-350 and caught fire.
The crash remains under investigation.
