Paraprofessional in Central Florida Faces Charges After High School Student Assault Allegation

CENTRAL FLORIDA, A Central Florida paraprofessional has been accused of assaulting a student at Seabreeze High School, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.
Authorities said Daytona Beach officers arrested 50-year-old Dontel Wright on Thursday in connection with the incident. Police stated that the situation was first reported to the school’s assistant principal, who then notified the campus School Resource Officer.
According to investigators, Wright is accused of intentionally and unlawfully kicking a 17-year-old student during what was described as a behavioral incident on campus. Police allege the student attempted to run away and hide under nearby bleachers.
Investigators said Wright followed the student and forcibly removed them from beneath the bleachers. Officials confirmed that the student did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
The student’s parents were notified and expressed their intent to press charges on behalf of their child, according to the police department.
Because the matter remains an active criminal investigation, authorities said no additional details will be released at this time.
