One Person Killed and Several Injured in Shooting at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET R.I., Multiple people were shot Monday afternoon during a youth hockey game at an indoor ice rink in Pawtucket, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena on Andrew D. Ferland Way. According to officials, several individuals were struck by gunfire while a boys’ hockey game was underway inside the facility.
Law enforcement sources reported that one victim died as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting. Four additional victims were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.
Authorities also confirmed that the suspected gunman is deceased. Details regarding the circumstances of the suspect’s death have not been officially released.
At the time of the incident, a 2 p.m. matchup between Coventry and Blackstone Valley schools was reportedly in progress, drawing players, coaches, and spectators to the arena.
An employee at a nearby Walgreens on Andrew D. Ferland Way stated that individuals entered the store in a state of panic, reporting that shots had been fired at the rink.
The employee said pharmacy staff were instructed to close the store and evacuate. Emergency services were contacted, and several people sheltered inside the building while awaiting further instructions from authorities.
Police responded quickly to the scene and secured the area. Officials have not released the identities of the deceased or injured individuals.
An active investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether there is any ongoing threat to the public.
