Officials Say Delayed Help Led to 20-Year Sentence for Hensley Mother in Overdose Death

HENSLEY ARKANSAS, A Hensley mother has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after being convicted of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death.
The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas said the woman, 62-year-old April Adams, and her daughter, 38-year-old Amber Church, were indicted for the crime on April 2, 2024.
Adams was also sentenced to three years of supervised release following the completion of her prison term.
Authorities said the case stems from an incident on April 16, 2023, when the Saline County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home on Crab Apple Circle. Deputies found four people suffering from overdoses.
Medical personnel administered Narcan at the scene. Three individuals survived, but one person died.
During the trial, two overdose survivors testified that Adams offered methamphetamine to the group and also to Church. After smoking the meth, Church reportedly asked Adams if they could use a substance she had stored in her room that was believed to be cocaine.
Investigators said the substance was not cocaine but fentanyl. Church also reportedly used the fentanyl.
