MOUNT VERNON, IL, — The Bethel Grade School District and the Mount Vernon community are mourning the loss of Nathan Pigg, a dedicated public servant, basketball coach, and family man who passed away peacefully in his sleep early Tuesday morning, February 4, according to his family.

Nathan’s sudden passing has had a profound impact on students, athletes, colleagues, and loved ones throughout the community. In a statement, Bethel Grade School District #82 confirmed his death and shared condolences, acknowledging the meaningful role he played in the lives of many young people.

“We are saddened to hear about a huge loss to the Bethel family,” the district stated. “Board member and basketball coach, Nathan Pigg, passed away this morning. This will undoubtedly have an impact on his players and our students. Grief counselors will be available at school tomorrow if any of our students need someone to talk to. Nathan was widely respected for his commitment to mentorship and service.
