Lehman High School Lockdown: Student With Weapon Arrested in Kyle, TX

KYLE, TEXAS, A student was taken into custody Monday, Feb. 23, after reports of a possible weapon prompted a precautionary lockdown at Lehman High School, according to district officials.
Hays CISD notified parents, students, and staff that the campus entered a preliminary lockdown after receiving information that someone on campus may have had a weapon. District officials stated the report was initially unconfirmed but said the lockdown was implemented out of caution to allow for an immediate search and to help ensure the safety of students and staff.
“The campus has been placed in a precautionary lockdown because it was reported that someone on campus may have a weapon,” the district said in a statement. “This information is not confirmed and may also not be the case. Out of an abundance of caution and to conduct an immediate search, the campus went in lockdown. At present, everyone is safe.”
Law enforcement officers responded to the campus and conducted an investigation. Authorities later confirmed that a teenager, identified as a juvenile, was found in possession of a firearm and was arrested. No injuries were reported.
District officials said standard safety protocols would be followed before lifting the lockdown. Classes were expected to resume on a classroom-by-classroom basis once an all-clear was issued. The lockdown was anticipated to delay dismissal, and parents were advised to avoid the area while officers completed their investigation.
School and law enforcement officials have not released additional details regarding how the weapon was brought onto campus or what charges the teen may face. The investigation remains ongoing.
Hays CISD stated it will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available and reiterated that the safety of students and staff remains a top priority.
