Family Attacked During Carjacking Incident Outside Burger King, Investigation Ongoing

MEMPHIS TENNESSEE, A woman and her three children were carjacked and injured Monday night while at a Burger King on Winchester Road, according to authorities.
Police said Alexis Kearney, 31, and Antonio Alexander, 25, were arrested in connection with the incident. Kearney has been charged with carjacking. Alexander faces felony charges of theft of property and theft of a firearm, along with misdemeanor charges of aggravated assault and assault, according to court records.
The victim, Kristin Gillia, told local media she was in the drive-thru when she realized part of her order was missing and was asked to come inside the restaurant. She brought one child inside with her but left two children in the SUV, a 2007 Ford Edge she had recently purchased, after instructing them to lock the doors.
According to reports, the two children ran into the restaurant moments later and told their mother someone was attempting to steal the vehicle. Gillia said she rushed outside and attempted to intervene.
During the confrontation, the suspects allegedly drove off in the SUV. Police said Gillia’s foot was run over during the incident, and one of her children was reportedly pulled from the vehicle and pushed to the ground.
Authorities said the stolen SUV was later located parked on a nearby road. A firearm was reportedly recovered at the scene by a witness.
Gillia and one of her children were treated at a local hospital.
Alexander appeared in court Friday. Kearney is scheduled for a mental evaluation on March 12.
The investigation remains ongoing.
