AUSTIN TEXAS, Samuel Rios, an Austin man, is alleged to have fatally stabbed a woman before taking his own life inside a home on the 6700 block of Windrift Way on Valentine’s Day.
Officers responded to the residence for a welfare check at approximately 11:29 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, after receiving a report that Megan Montgomery, 39, had not reported to work, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department.
Upon entering the home with a key obtained from family members, officers found Montgomery and Samuel Rios, 47, both deceased with apparent trauma to their bodies.
Domestic Violence Investigation
A preliminary investigation indicates Rios stabbed Montgomery before dying from a self-inflicted injury, Austin police said. The case has been classified as Austin’s eighth homicide of 2026. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances and motive but stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Authorities have not formally detailed the nature of the relationship between Montgomery and Rios. However, social media posts suggest the two were involved in a domestic relationship.
One post shared by Dwayne Fishbone Richardson read: “If you find yourself in an abusive relationship, please get away from it. Before it’s too late. Love you, Megan Page Montgomery.”
Another message from Fernanda Bulhoes stated: “Our hearts go out to Megan Page Montgomery’s family. We’re sending them all our love and strength. If you’re going through domestic violence, please know: You are not alone. Please speak up, tell a friend, or reach out. We’re here for you, and no one should have to face this by themselves.”
