Town Center Shooting Leaves One Injured; Two Arrested After Baton Rouge Police Crash

Baton Rouge police are searching for two individuals following a shooting in the parking lot of a bank near Towne Center that left one person hospitalized Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. outside the Gulf Coast Bank located at the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Thibodeaux Avenue. According to the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a suspicious situation involving a vehicle in the bank’s parking lot.

Police said three people were inside the vehicle when an officer made contact. During the encounter, gunfire occurred, resulting in one individual being injured. Two other individuals fled the scene on foot. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved.

Officials confirmed that the injured person was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the shooting, BRPD established a large police presence in the surrounding area while officers searched for the two individuals who ran from the vehicle. Several nearby roads, including portions of Lobdell Avenue, were temporarily closed to allow officers to conduct a thorough search. Helicopters and K-9 units were also deployed as part of the response.

During the police response, two BRPD patrol vehicles were involved in a traffic collision at the intersection of Goodwood Boulevard and East Airport Avenue. One officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, according to authorities.

As a precautionary measure, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School, located just over a mile from the scene, was placed under a temporary shelter-in-place order while police continued their search efforts.

In an initial alert, law enforcement described the incident as an officer-involved shooting, noting that shots were fired during the encounter at the Gulf Coast Bank location. At that time, three individuals were believed to be involved. Officials later clarified that two individuals remain at large, while one person sustained injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional details have not yet been released. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Baton Rouge Police Department as the case continues to develop.
