Christopher Moon, 43, called 911 at about 8:06 a.m. and told dispatchers that he had killed his wife, Cassandra Moore, 23, and intended to kill himself, according to reports cited by ABC4.

Law enforcement officers with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, including SWAT teams, responded to the couple’s residence in the Star Valley area. Authorities said Moon was found inside one of two parked vehicles on the property. Deputies contacted him by phone and attempted to persuade him to surrender, but Moon fatally shot himself in front of officers, officials said.

A search of the home revealed the body of Moore, who was also known as Cassie. Social media posts identified her by her maiden name, Cassie Clinger.

The couple is survived by three children, including two boys and an infant daughter. Authorities said the children were not inside the home at the time of the incident.

Photos shared on social media showed the couple celebrating their marriage in late July 2024.

In a statement posted to the Facebook group “We Are Not Alone,” Clinger’s mother, Cynthia, said her daughter did not take her own life and that she was killed. She asked the public to remember her daughter and her children.

Clinger had previously spoken openly about her struggles with depression and postpartum mental health issues. She founded the Facebook group “We Are Not Alone,” where she shared her experiences in an effort to support others facing similar challenges.

In a post dated Dec. 5, 2025, Clinger wrote about ongoing struggles with depression, anxiety, and urges to self-harm, while also expressing gratitude for the support she received from mental health professionals and members of the online community.

Following the deaths, tributes poured in on social media from people who said Clinger’s openness and encouragement had helped them through difficult times.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to assist Clinger’s family with funeral and memorial expenses, as well as ongoing support for her children. A separate Facebook auction group titled “Caring for Cassie” has also been created, with proceeds designated for her family.

Authorities have not released a motive for the murder-suicide and said the investigation remains ongoing.
