Man Killed in Auto-Pedestrian Crash Near Weslaco as Investigation Continues

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that resulted in the death of a man on Saturday evening near Weslaco, Texas.

According to DPS officials, the incident occurred at approximately 6:21 p.m. on FM 1015, south of Mile 13½ North Road, north of Weslaco. A preliminary investigation revealed that a gray 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a male motorist, was traveling northbound on FM 1015 at the time of the crash.

Authorities stated that, for reasons that have not yet been determined, a pedestrian ran toward the northbound lane of traffic and approached the Silverado. During the incident, the pedestrian was struck by the vehicle’s front right-side mirror. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle and attempted to provide assistance at the scene.

The pedestrian was later identified as Raul Palomin, 48, a resident of Edcouch. He was transported to McAllen Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing. At this time, no further details have been released as officials continue to work to determine exactly what led to the incident.
