Westside Parking Lot Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured; Neighbors Cite Past Noise Complaints

One man died and another was injured after a shooting Wednesday night at a Westside parking lot that has a history of late-night noise complaints, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).
Police said officers were called around 8:10 p.m. to the Paxon Shopping Center Plaza parking lot on Edgewood Avenue North after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, authorities said. Both were taken to a hospital, where one of the men later died. The second victim was listed in stable condition.
JSO said multiple individuals were taken to the Police Memorial Building for interviews, but it was not immediately clear whether anyone had been arrested.
The shooting happened at a location that has drawn repeated complaints from nearby residents over ongoing large gatherings and loud music late at night. Residents previously told local media that the issue has continued for about two years despite repeated reports to law enforcement and city officials.
Police dispatch records reviewed by local media show JSO has been called to the same parking lot dozens of times this year. From the beginning of the year through the week of Oct. 22, officers were dispatched there 97 times, including late-night noise complaints, calls involving fights, and reports of overnight armed disputes.
