Parents Detained After Tragic Shooting Death of 4-Year-Old Josiah Cabral in San Antonio
Authorities have identified the 4-year-old boy who died after a shooting at a Northwest Side home in San Antonio.
Police confirmed the child as Josiah Cabral, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death remains ongoing.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus stated that officers responded around 3 p.m. Monday to a home on Windstone Creek, near Bandera Road and Loop 1604, after two 911 calls — one from inside the house and another from outside — reported a gunshot.
When police arrived, Josiah’s father was found on the floor attempting to perform lifesaving measures on his son. Josiah was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Chief McManus said that only three people were inside the residence during the incident: Josiah, his mother, and his father. A handgun was involved, but officials have not yet released details about how the shooting occurred or who fired the weapon.
Both parents were detained for questioning as detectives work to determine a clear timeline of events and whether the shooting was accidental, negligent, or intentional.
Neighbors expressed heartbreak and concern upon learning of the child’s death.
“It’s so awful and sad,” said Victoria Downing. “I just hope police get answers.” Another neighbor described the situation as “nerve-wracking.”
Authorities emphasize that the investigation is active. Additional information will be released once confirmed.
